Embark on a 2-day desert adventure from Ouarzazate to the towering dunes of Erg Chegaga, beginning with a scenic drive through the lush Draa Valley, dotted with countless date palms and ancient kasbahs. After reaching the edge of the Sahara in M’Hamid and enjoying a traditional lunch in a rustic kasbah, continue off-road to the remote dunes of Erg Chegaga. There, settle into your tented camp, ride camels at sunset, and dine around a campfire beneath a sky full of stars. After a peaceful night in the desert, wake early to catch the sunrise and enjoy breakfast before traveling through the vast landscapes of Lake Iriqui and the rocky desert. Stop in Foum Zguid, then continue to Taznakht for lunch and an optional visit to a women’s carpet-weaving cooperative, arriving back in Ouarzazate by late afternoon with memories of Morocco’s wild and beautiful south.
Trip Itinerary
08h00 : Departure from the hotel in Ouarzazate for a trip in the desert, leading to the highest dunes of Morocco: The Dunes of Erg Chegaga. Chegaga is 05 hours away by car, crossing the majestic Draa Valley, with its millions of date palms and hundreds of old kasbahs. Arrival at M'Hamid where the tar road ends and the Sahara begins. After lunch in a rustic Kasbah, join the magical desert of Erg Chegaga. After settling into your tents, you will witness the picturesque, unique sunset behind the dunes, which you explore on camelback. A tasty dinner will be served in your tents around the campfire.Overnight in tents.
Wake up in the morning to witness the magnificent sunrise, before having a traditional breakfast in the restaurant tent. Return to Ouarzazate via Tazenakht, about 7 hours drive. Drive by the dry lake of Iriqui. Arrival at the village of Foum Zguid after 3 hours of panoramic drive in the rocky desert. Stop at the Berber village of Taznakht for lunch and optional visit to a women's cooperative weaving carpets made in the traditional way. Arrival in Ouarzazate around 5pm
